Sprite bottles going "green" by ditching green

After more than 60 years, the iconic brand Sprite is getting a makeover – switching from its classic green plastic bottles to clear bottles to enhance recyclability and to realise sustainability through innovation.

After taking the lead in using clear bottles in Hong Kong in 2020, Sprite’s iconic bottles in the U.S.  have also become clear since August this year. Even though the original green plastic bottles are recyclable, the recycled materials are more often converted into single-use items like clothing and carpeting. With the new packaging, the clear Sprite bottles are now easier to be remade into new beverage bottles, driving the circular economy for plastic. Another brand under The Coca-Cola Company, DASANI bottled water, has also rolled out bottles made from 100% recycled PET plastic (excluding caps and labels).

By continuing to develop sustainable packaging for our products, Swire Coca-Cola aims to collect and recycle a bottle or can for each one we sell by 2030.

Swire Coca-Cola, USA was pleased to welcome a local news crew to its Salt Lake City plant to see some of the first clear bottles coming off the line.
