Green Milestone: First PV Power Project in the Coca-Cola system in Guangdong

In January 2024, Swire Coca-Cola’s bottling plant in Huizhou launched the first photovoltaic (PV) power project within the Coca-Cola system in Guangdong province. This initiative marks an important step for Swire Coca-Cola China in achieving its commitment of using 100% renewable electricity for its core operation by 2026.

The project operates in a grid-connected mode, using self-generated electricity for on-site consumption. It is estimated to generate approximately 2.1 million kWh annually, resulting in an equivalent reduction of 1,196 metric tons of carbon emissions per year.

The new PV power project employs building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) technology, which refers to using photovoltaic panels to replace conventional building materials in parts of the building. These panels serve a dual purpose: generating electricity, while also functioning as essential building materials. In this project, the rooftop spaces of the factory and warehouse are fully utilised. The efficiency and stability of the PV power generation are ensured through optimised management using intelligent control systems.

The implementation of this project will bring significant environmental benefits to our bottling plants. Looking ahead, we plan to explore the wider application of BIPV technology across our other facilities.
