Plastic Reborn — Hong Kong’s first ‘Recycle Bar’

image
To showcase the endless possibilities of recycled PET (rPET) plastic and help foster the recycling habits of the public, Hong Kong’s first Coca-Cola 'Recycle Bar' was launched in June.  A total of 18,000 recycled plastic bottles were transformed into over 30 pieces of bar furniture, including: a bar counter, bar stools, tables and chairs, all of which were locally produced. Apart from furniture, rPET can also be "reborn" into everyday accessories, some of which were exhibited to raise public awareness about the proper collection and recycling of used resources to minimize their carbon footprint.

The exhibition also showcased the procedures of PET recycling inside a recycling facility. Visitors could experience one of the recycling procedures by shredding PET bottles in the 'Recycle Bar'. They are also encouraged to bring along used PET bottles for recycling and to redeem free beverages and rPET-made souvenirs. After the exhibition, the furniture will be reused at an 'Recycling Academy' experience centre, which is also part of The Coca-Cola Company’s public education efforts.

Our Hong Kong team will continue to work closely with The Coca-Cola Company, advocating for a sustainable lifestyle and enhancing recovery and recycling rates in the local market, all in pursuit of a World Without Waste.
